CVS Near Me – The central theses
CVS and Walgreens deliver the first two COVID-19 vaccines in long-term care facilities.
Healthcare facilities also vaccinate their employees during this first phase, when vaccine supplies are still scarce.
Many pharmacies plan in making the vaccine available to the public as soon as supply increases and high priority groups get their vaccines first.
With more healthcare workers, residents, and long-term care workers now having access to COVID-19 vaccines, some public health officials are starting to lower their priority lists to protect other vulnerable groups as well.
Pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech received the vaccine on 11. President Biden is taking several steps to expedite the introduction of a vaccine that is slower than expected.

Approvals on Vaccines
While we await emergency approval for more vaccines to alleviate limited primary care, 60% of US pharmacies are preparing or administering the COVID-19 vaccine. About 21 million healthcare workers and 3 million long-term care residents are eligible for the first vaccines.
The Walgreens and CVS retail pharmacies offer the first phase of vaccines in long-term care facilities. However, they also plan when supply will catch up with demand, and more people will have access to COVID-19 vaccines through their stores. Learn how pharmacies are preparing for broader adoption and how some people are pre-registering people for vaccines here.
The vaccine will initially be available to a limited number of people through pharmacies and health centers. Please check below for more information on each.
From independent pharmacies to regional/national chains, pharmacies and supermarkets across the country have partnered with HHS to provide the vaccine. You begin by administering the vaccine to healthcare workers and residents, and employees of long-term care facilities. (See below for the three phases of initial vaccine introduction.)
Albertsons: Albertsons anticipates that the vaccine will be available in some locations to select populations when it is first known and eventually in all areas. You can sign up for the latest vaccine information on their website.
CVS: The CVS stores will add the COVID-19 vaccine to their planning tool as soon as it becomes available. The device requires you to plan both the first injection and the follow-up vaccine.
H-E-B: Texas-based H-E-B is prepared to follow CDC’s vaccine distribution plan.
Hy-Vee: Hy-Vee plans to hire 1,000 licensed pharmaceutical technicians for its 270 pharmacies. The new hires will provide vaccine assistance to clients in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
According to the store’s website, Rite Aid locations are primed and ready to administer the vaccine.
Target: Target employees and customers can receive the vaccine at store pharmacies as soon as it is available to the public, according to the Target website.
Walgreens: Walgreens supports government efforts to deliver vaccines to long-term care facilities. The company will also offer vaccines to consumers at all of its more than 9,000 outlets. Visit the Walgreens COVID-19 FAQ page for more information.

Healthcare workers and residents and long-term care workers, possibly the most vulnerable populations, can expect to come first for the vaccine. Vaccination-ready facilities include Brookdale Senior Living and Banner Health.
Brookdale Senior Housing
Brookdale worked with CVS Health to deliver 40,000 vaccines to their communities in 39 states in just over four weeks. Older residents and workers are vaccinated in 500 of Brookdale’s 700 parishes.
“Our residents are participating in large numbers because they recognize the importance of the vaccine,” Lucinda “Cindy” Baier, Brookdale president and CEO, said in a statement. “The seniors we serve from the beginning of lives in eradicating diseases like whooping cough and smallpox and now have the opportunity to lead us again by getting vaccinated against COVID-19.”
Banner Health sells vaccines at various locations. The practical health system asks people to contact their state and county health authorities to determine what stage of vaccination they are in.
Those who qualify for a vaccine are given links or phone numbers to schedule appointments at different locations. Banner Health asks for your patience, as arrangements can be booked quickly. Banner Health has facilities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming.
Community health centers
Starting February 15, the Biden government will ship COVID-19 vaccines to federally funded community health centers to reach people in underserved areas. However, the first shipment of 1 million cans will go to 250 state-rated health centers in the coming weeks.
More than 13,000 community health centers provide preventive and primary care services to nearly 30 million people nationwide on a sliding fee scale. Also, more than half of the patients treated are from racial or ethnic minorities, and two-thirds live below the state poverty line, the White House said. However, Black, Hispanic, or Latin American people have suffered disproportionately high death rates from COVID-19 compared to their white counterparts.
Who will get the vaccine first?
To be very effective, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two injections approximately 3-4 weeks apart, respectively. Vaccinations will be free, according to HHS. Priority can be given to the following populations in three phases initially proposed:
- Healthcare workers
- Long-term care facility residents and employees
- Food and agriculture workers
- Public service employees
- Police and firefighters
- Prison officers
- Transport workers
- Adults over 65
- Adults with high-risk medical conditions

CVS Pharmacy will administer the COVID-19 vaccine in multiple locations according to regulatory guidelines in state and local jurisdictions.
However, patients can now go to select CVS pharmacy locations to receive a COVID-19 vaccine without the need for an appointment.
Same-day scheduling, including charges an hour after the meeting, is also available on cvs.com. Also, the planner is also updated during the day to accommodate cancellations made on the same day.
However, we made COVID-19 testing available to thousands of communities across the country during the pandemic, and we are ready to help you get a safe vaccine.
Also, we have unmatched experience in delivering vaccines safely and effectively. We received nearly 20 million non-COVID-19 vaccines in 2020, including more than twice as many flu vaccines in 2019.
Also, we are making significant investments in our cold chain distribution capabilities in preparation for COVID-19 vaccines, and our CVS pharmacies are well equipped to store vaccines safely.
Most importantly, our team of experienced healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, trained pharmacy technicians, and nurses, are experienced in administering vaccines and look forward to playing a pivotal role in vaccinating when the time is right.
We work in communities to improve awareness and equality of COVID-19 vaccines
To address potential inequalities related to access to COVID-19 vaccines, we have launched a strategy to combat COVID-19 vaccine education. And also, justice in vulnerable communities, with a particular focus on Black and Hispanic populations.
However, in all of our businesses and with our network of community executives and nonprofits, we work to reach patients to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates.
Also, we are prioritizing CVS pharmacies in vulnerable communities as we begin offering vaccines in select states and locations.
As we expand to more states and areas, we will also improve access to vaccines by deploying mobile vaccination carts.
Also, offering community-based vaccination clinics that work with nonprofit organizations.
We believe we can play an essential role in educating the communities we serve about vaccines and improving equitable access across the country.
COVID-19 Vaccines Available at Select CVS Pharmacy Locations
At select CVS pharmacy locations, vaccines are currently only available to priority populations, as determined by the state and federal governments. Once vaccines are open to the general public, we expect to vaccinate up to 20-25 million vaccines per month at CVS pharmacies across the country, provided adequate supplies are available.
Eligible customers can now schedule their vaccinations, both the first shot and the required second dose, on cvs.com or through the CVS app.

As of February 16, we have administered more than 3 million doses of vaccines to patients and staff at more than 40,000 long-term care facilities nationwide. However, we have completed the first doses of vaccine administration at all skilled nursing facilities and will terminate the second doses as planned by the end of the month.
Also, we are on track to complete both amounts of the assisted living vaccine administration in mid-March. By doing so, we are meeting our commitment to administer vaccines in long-term care facilities.
