Genius (2018) is an Indian Hindustani-language action thriller film.
It marks the debut of new actor Utkarsh Sharma as a male lead, who also featured as a child actor in Sharma’s 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Ishita Chauhan. However, Veteran actress Ayesha Jhulka, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Mithun Chakraborty are supporting roles in the movie.

At one time, he is a college goofball. At another, they a fantastic charmer and a campus hero with top scores. Also, Vasudev Shashtri or Vasu (Utkarsh Sharma) can shoot Vedic chants and bullets with equal ease, chasing a speeding convoy on a bicycle with a limping foot solve rubric cubes in record time to save lives.
Firstly, Director Anil Sharma mounts a big responsibility on his son’s lean shoulders to heroically outsmart everyone else, including the film’s villain Nawazuddin Siddiqui. However, Utkarsh delivers on several counts with his boyish charm for a first-timer even as the film’s wobbly script falters repeatedly.
There is a secret mission with more dominant patriotic overtones, a slick A-team, caricature bad guys, and many RAW agents who act like anxious school kids when facing crises.
As the National Security Advisor, Mithun Chakraborty brings all seriousness to his character, albeit a tad too much. Nawazuddin makes a grand entry, but his actions as a genius gone wrong is a hamfest.
Overall, the ‘Genius’ is a messed up mumbo jumbo of some juvenile IIT hacks, loud sounds, and verbose filmy dialoguebazi.
