Debunking the Most Common Photography Myths That Exist Today

Debunking the Most Common Photography Myths That Exist Today – Ever since the first portable camera was designed in 1685, thousands upon thousands of people have picked up a camera and taken a picture themselves. With the rise of digital photography, it has brought up quite a few photography myths that can be confusing for countless aspiring photographers.

Read on for these myths that we are about to debunk and clear up.

1. Expensive Gear Is A Must

Many people are under the impression that in order to take great photos and be the best photographer, you need very expensive photography equipment. The truth is that having a top-of-the-line camera will not automatically make you a good photographer.

Before you shell out thousands of dollars to upgrade your equipment we recommend using what you currently have to perfect your craft. Do not make the mistake of not going into photography because you feel that you do not have the right equipment yet.

2. Everything Can Be Fixed On Your Computer

A big myth is that you can fix every picture you take in editing software afterward. While you can make a lot of changes such as making a picture a transparent PNG, fixing the lighting, or increasing the exposure, you can’t edit everything.

For example, if you take a picture that is way too dark and you increase the exposure then this might lead to a picture that is too grainy. It can sometimes be challenging to make a photo look like you intended it to look when you were taking the picture while you are working in post-production software.

3. A Huge Portfolio Is Needed

When you are showcasing your work, you might think that you have to upload hundreds of images to your website portfolio or print out hundreds of images to show to potential clients. The truth is that you do not need a huge portfolio.

The key is to only choose your best work for the style or genre that you are wanting to shoot. For example, if you only want to shoot newborn pictures there is no need to put landscaping and sports photography in your portfolio no matter how great those pictures you took are.

Doing so can cause confusion for a potential client because they do not want to look at hundreds of pictures that are unrelated to the photography they are interested in hiring you for. Always keep in mind quality over quantity as your guideline when choosing which pictures you want to showcase in your portfolio.

Say Goodbye To These Photography Myths

If you have been dabbling in photography and you believed some of the photography myths above, you can now debunk them. Remember that in order to be a great photographer you will need to consistently continue taking pictures to perfect your craft.
